You may even start to root for them, until the game swerves into a task involving the excruciatingly drawn-out murder of a toy elephant to make their daughter cry.As It Takes Two is entirely co-operative, traditionally, to play online, two players would need to purchase the game. May and Cody’s jibes at each other swerve from affectionate to cutting in a believable and often touching way as they pick at the rifts in their relationship. At times it as sweet, warm and sharply enjoyable as any family film. Tonally it is all over the place, never seeming quite sure what type of game it wants to be and audience it wants to court. With inventive and creative gameplay puzzles coupled with some unique environments, It Takes Two is without a doubt the greatest couch co-op game I’ve played in recent memory. The shared laughs, frustrations, and triumphs are an aspect of co-op games that I had sorely missed. Playing It Takes Two took me back to the era of couch co-op games that I would play with my friends and family.

This is the second release from Hazelight, and while A Way Out had plenty of fans, it seems that it may just take two to make a thing go quite this right. Despite the downright wild amount of things to do, It Takes Two manages to handle every mechanic well. You may ride a frog or fly a plane with wings made from Cody’s boxers or hack-and-slash through a Diablo-style castle.

It Takes Two is the best 3D platformer I’ve played since Super Mario Odyssey, and like that game, it has a flair for variety.
